The advantages of sustainable agriculture and how to achieve it

The agriculture industry is being modernised and data-driven weather intelligence is critical to its long-term viability. Managing farming decision-making processes has always been difficult due to the numerous restricting factors that are outside the control of a farmer.

Big data exists and we're using it to help contemporary    agriculture evolve by relying less on human labour and more on data-driven analysis. We recognise that relying on intuition and traditional technologies is impractical as the world's population grows and the agricultural business faces increasing strain. As a result, we're working on agricultural solutions that rely on automatic data collecting, predictive analytics and AI-driven insights as the foundation for long-term sustainability.

People in a number of positions across the industry are involved in the concept of sustainable agriculture. We'll look at how we got here and why contemporary farming practises are the logical next step in making the world a better place.

Agriculture modernization as a solution to historical issues:
There is little chance that the amount of arable land available will alter. We'll need to produce more crops from existing resources as the world's population continues to expand. By 2050, the world's population will have swelled to 9 billion. Food production must rise by at least 70% in order to feed this increasing population.

Future generations will be unable to produce and exploit our arable land if the agriculture business does not look beyond existing techniques. Agriculture used to be centred on making the most of available land and producing as many crops as possible. Sustainable crop production and land protection were not prioritised. There was little emphasis on profitability or conservation of land and resources from a financial sense. These two are inextricably linked.

Three advantages of making the switch to sustainable agriculture:
Committing to the development of technology driven agricultural methods has significant benefit and enhanced meteorological data and analytics will help us get there. We want to help growers and businesses make better weather-based decisions so that we can continue to reap the benefits of sustainable agriculture:
1. Environmental protection and pollution prevention:
Farmers will use less nonrenewable energy, utilise fewer chemicals and conserve precious resources if they follow sustainable techniques. When it comes to expanding population and food demand, keeping the land healthy and replenished may go a long way.

2. Cutting expenditures and concentrating on earnings:
Everyone involved in the agriculture business will gain from farming smarter and moving food from farm to fork in a more efficient manner. Sensor data from seed drills, sprayers and spreaders, as well as drones, satellite photos and soil, turns surprises into rarities.

3. Increasing food output without wasting it:
As previously stated, the expected population growth is cause for concern. From a pure production standpoint, there is a chance to expand agricultural techniques now and sustainable agriculture is the route with the most potential.

Agriculture technology for today:
The Weather Company is focused on increasing food production while reducing environmental impact and keeping operational expenses to a minimum. Modernizing agricultural techniques is a long-term project, but we want to lead the evolution of modern agriculture with the expertise of seasoned industry leaders, decades of IBM research, artificial intelligence, analytics and predictive insights based on unique Internet of Things data.
